Some distant relatives dropped in over Easter - they grazed a while and then took off, calling loudly. My girls didn't take much notice - but I watched until the specs disappeared in the cold sky, and wondered where they were headed.
A pair of Greylag Geese - they were very nervous and constantly on-guard - watching me as intently as I was watching them!
why don't domestic geese want to migrate?
ReplyDeleteIt is a bit like our pet dogs not behaving like wolves I suppose. I am not sure we know truly that they don't Ellen, - over hundreds of years of selective breeding, those traits not desirable (to us humans) are ironed out and we have large, fat, good for the table type birds or show creatures - I think now that even given a good wind, majority of domestic geese could not fly far, if take-off at all!
DeleteI must look into it!
