Bee Eater carving

Here is a little sneak preview of the Bee Eater, as promised, before he disappears off to Leeds - I'm delivering my pieces today to The Birds and the Bees exhibition which starts on the 24th March.

Carved from Opal Stone - a serpentine like stone from Zimbabwe, which is a little like soapstone to work, very amenable and polishes to a good lustre.

I know that Bee Eater is a little rotund (all those big bees he's been eating!), but he seemed such a happy character that I was loathe to slim him down, so please allow me a little artistic licence.
